I have a crazy week ahead of me, more things to do than I have the time to complete them in and I've been running about the house all morning like a headless chicken. I am going to be traveling to Portsmouth to spend some time with my partner as I haven't seen him in a while, so I have many things to sort out, hospital appointments to attend, cupcakes to bake, many errands to run and a pirate outfit to whip up on my sewing machine. I also wanted to write a blog post or two before I left as I really don't like using my iPad to upload something clunky and unpleasant to read.
It would be a lot easier to get all of these things done if a great deal of the television that I watch didn't start or run through in October, I even started some new series and revisited some that I swore to myself I would never watch again. All summer I would moan about not having anything on television to watch, it is probably safe to say that I have watched all that is worth watching on Netflix and the Sky TV box sets. Now I simply don't have enough time for all this television, despite being adamant on hibernating this winter to do nothing but vegetate and indulge myself in TV, I still have series upon series coming out of my ears! Here are a few programs (good and bad) that have been assisting me in procrastinating these past few weeks.

★★☆☆☆[/caption]American Horror Story: Freak Show
As an AHS fan, this has been something I was eagerly awaiting. Despite the previous series Coven which I thought was an utter disappointment, I love the cast of actors and actresses selected to be in the series, especially the Super bitch and Mr Gimpy (Jessica Lange and Evan Peters). However, I thought that the first episode of new series Freak Show was quite the let down. The storyline, although not entirely made apparent yet has already blown Coven out of the water, but the attempts to be freakish and outlandish are way too try hard for me. I can't really pass judgement just by going on the first episode, but I will stick around to see how it progresses.

★★★★☆[/caption]Gotham
Now this is something I really wasn't looking forward to, or at least had mixed feelings about. The wonderful world of Gotham before Batman, to my surprise was so much better than I expected it to be. Now, I am not too sure about some of the choices of actor for some of the characters, I don't like Selina Kyle (aka Cat) or Fish Mooney too much, but there are some that I can't get enough of! I adore Robin Taylor as The Penguin, and I am so thrilled with Sean Pertwee as Alfred! The strange cop in spectacles, Edward Nygma looks like he is going to spice things up a bit and I can't wait to see his character development (muahaha). Two episodes in and I am pretty hooked, definitely looking forward to watching the rest of the series.

★★☆☆☆[/caption]The Walking Dead
As an ex WD fan, not something I was particularly interested in watching, that was until my mother informed me of the gore fest I was missing out on. I really don't like the characters, except maybe for Carol, because recently she's turned into such a badass and I really enjoyed her character development over time. I also really don't like the storyline, how slow it takes to build up and how I can miss several episodes and still know exactly what's going on. The only good thing about The Walking Dead in my opinion is the zombies and the carnage, a program where I get my fill of guts and gore that no horror movie or other TV show has been able to deliver the goods on.

★★★★★[/caption]Boardwalk Empire
Something my partner got me watching, set in Atlantic City during the prohibition era focusing on the life of an Enoch Thompson (based on real Atlantic City figure Enoch Johnson). If you're into the 1920's, 1930's and/or gangsters, this is definitely for you. I really liked how Terrence Winter made it as historically accurate as possible, yet worked on fictionalising these historical figures so you wouldn't be plagued with spoilers when you type them in on google. I enjoyed reading into the backgrounds of these real life mobsters, you can find out a bit more about the historical figures if you check out the wiki page. I think this program is fantastic, I would recommend it to everyone, especially given that it has won 53 awards. It is such a shame that the program is airing the last series, I have thoroughly enjoyed Boardwalk Empire start to (almost) finish. Steve Buscemi is brilliant, along with Michael Stuhlbarg and Stephen Graham. I wonder how the last episodes are going to play out, things are getting pretty heated.

★★★☆☆[/caption]Doctor Who
I wouldn't really class myself as a Doctor Who fan, I've never really enjoyed how he was portrayed from Christopher Eccleston (Ninth Doctor) onwards. I also had my reservations about Peter Capaldi, I thought it would be a train wreck that would make the program even less bearable, but again to my surprise I have really enjoyed watching him as The Doctor. However, as much I have loved Peter Capaldi's take on the doctor I think that the story line is really letting him down, Capaldi is very talented and I feel that it is such a shame to see him being held back by what has been written and a rather annoying companion in my opinion. The exchange between characters has improved, but there needs to be better story lines (or at least better filler episodes) from the Moffat and a lot less Clara to keep me entertained. I never really liked how the Doctor was seen as a heart throb by the majority of his companions, and now how Capaldi has taken on more of the father figure role towards Clara. Hopefully that won't be the case for future companions, a different type of relationship needs to be established so I can start to enjoy the program more.
On another note, Peter Capaldi recognises PoTS (Postural Tachycardia Syndrome) and the challenges that sufferers have to face. He is fully supportive of PoTS UK! For more information, please visit: http://www.potsuk.org/

★★★★☆[/caption]Glue
This is something new on E4, sort of like a Skins in the countryside but with a much more interesting storyline to sink your teeth into. A 14 year old boy is found dead and the plot revolves around the investigation to find the killer, his teenage friends and their dirty little secrets. Who killed Cal? I have no idea, but half way through the series I am still excited to find out. It turns out that it wasn't who I'd thought it be, usually I would suss out who the murderer was first time in most programs but Glue has been keeping me guessing with all the twists and turns which I love.

★★★★☆[/caption]The Revolution will be televised
Warning: Not for those who are easily offended. I enjoy watching this program, sometimes it can be hit or miss, some topics might need to be taken with a pinch of salt but overall I find it utterly hilarious. A satirical show packed with pranks and funny sketches mocking the bad decisions made by politicians, industries and others in current affairs, it always has me laughing. Rubinstein and Prowse do a pretty good job of emphasizing and reiterating the misconduct that is happening that we probably wouldn't be any the wiser about.
So that's a few of the programs I have been watching whilst relaxing, it is nice to have a handful of shows to keep me busy until the arrival of Game of Thrones! I only started catching up on GoT before the previous series had started, but it only took me a few days to catch up as I was glued to screen. What have you been watching recently? Or what are you eagerly awaiting the arrival of to keep you occupied during the cold winter months?
