DIY Beauty, my first edition!

There is no doubt that we've all heard about those age old do it yourself beauty tips, some have been passed down through generations, but do they really work? I have spent quite a long time researching into DIY beauty treatments, primarily because branded products can be extremely expensive, but I am also very intrigued to see if a DIY treatment will match up to something I would buy in a drugstore.

Today I am going to tackle one of my biggest problems, puffy eyes and dark circles. To do this I shall be making use of cucumber, strawberries and eye pads. Strawberries and cucumbers are packed full of antioxidants and flavonoids that have anti inflammatory properties, which is very beneficial for your health, and also after those sleepless nights where you still have to function as a human the next day.

Puffy eyes are usually caused by a build up of lymphatic fluid, which can be caused by a number of issues such as lack of sleep, fluid retention, hormone changes, allergies and over activity. A low sodium diet is recommended for those with issues with fluid retention, but it is always best to speak to your doctor before making any drastic dietary changes.

So how do we go about diminishing dark circles and puffy eyes without having to make too many drastic changes to our lifestyle? I present you with a simple recipe for do it yourself cucumber and strawberry eye pads! It is very quick to prepare, contains three ingredients, and cost a total of 50p, as we already had cucumber and strawberries in the fridge.

  • You will need four inches of cucumber and a couple of strawberries.

  • Blend these two ingredients together into a pulp, add a few teaspoons of water and stir thoroughly until mixed.

  • Take your pads of choice, I used Tesco value as they're inexpensive and a basic necessity of life, and dip them into your green-ish goop until fully absorbed.

  • Squeeze the pads gently to remove any excess juices and set them aside in a freezer bag, ready for the freezer.

  • Once you've finished making all of your eye pads, stick the rest of them in the freezer. You will be able to freeze them for up to a month, and to use them all you will need to do is allow them to defrost until the cotton pad becomes malleable.

Now, I have only been doing this for two days but I have noticed a difference. I wanted to upload some before and after pictures, the first one was before I had started to use my DIY pads, as you can see I have some puffiness and dark circles. The picture below was taken today, two days after I had started to use the eye pads every morning and I am loving the results! In time I will get a better camera so I can start to share better pictures, but let me know what you think!
